2025 Community Collection FAQ

Please reach out to us at popup@portlandcameraclub.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The Portland Camera Club is a conceptual 'third space' for photography that will be launched as a brick and mortar pop-up in downtown Portland, Oregon during November and December of 2025.

Our mission is to promote the craft of photography in all its forms, sparking creativity through collaboration and celebrating the joy of image-making while inspiring participation in analog culture and authentic human connection.

We’re creating a space where curiosity and creativity meet — a welcoming home for photographers, artists, and anyone drawn to the magic of image-making. Equal parts camera shop, art exhibition, and community hub, it’s a place to explore, experiment, and learn together.

We believe photography should be accessible, approachable, and fun. With a focus on keeping barriers low, we invite everyone to engage with the art and craft of photography. Inspired by the spirit of a neighborhood coffee shop, our space encourages people to drop in, share a conversation, explore, and connect through creativity.

The pop-up is a collaborative effort co-run by Anthony Georgis (Portland Camera Club) and Sam Slater (The Portland Darkroom). We received a grant to open a brick and mortar storefront in downtown Portland through the 2025 PDX Pop-Up Program. Our space will showcase local photographers and work created in Oregon, sell affordable artwork, and host immersive experiences that connect Portland’s creative community through photography.

The Community Collection is a photography initiative designed to make art accessible while generating meaningful support for organizations helping at-risk members of our community.

Proceeds from the Community Collection go directly to these partner organizations—the artists do not receive a profit from these sales. This model turns photography into a vehicle for social impact, making art more inclusive while maximizing the difference each purchase can make.

You’ll be helping us create a space centered on accessibility, creativity, and real-world connection — values we believe are more important than ever right now.

The pop-up is a city-backed project with PR support, which means more eyes on your work, more interest in our photographic community, and more reach than a typical group show. We’ve also got some really exciting collaborations in the works that will help take this project to the next level in meaningful ways.

The Community Collection will launch with approximately 50 photographers. We’re still in the process of connecting with members of our community, and the collection will continue to evolve — with new works added over time and special collaborations introduced as the project grows.

Our theme for the 2025 Community Collection is 'Spectrum'

Spectrum celebrates the full range of photographic expression — from the technical to the experimental, from the personal to the collective. We invite photographers of all levels and backgrounds to share images that reflect a range of experience, emotion, and perception.

From the visible colors of light to the invisible frequencies that shape our world, Spectrum asks: How do we inhabit the gradients of identity, feeling, and connection?

This open call welcomes traditional, digital, and alternative photographic processes, as well as experimental and interdisciplinary approaches. We invite imagery that honors diversity and connection, revealing beauty in the spaces where community and collaboration intersect.

Because our exhibition space is open to a broad audience, including families, we ask that all submitted work be suitable for a PG-13 setting. We kindly request that artists avoid imagery depicting violence, self-harm, nudity, or hateful content. The Portland Camera Club reserves the right to decline submissions that may not align with the inclusive and welcoming spirit of the Community Collection.

It depends on the agreement you have with your representative. Since this project is quite large, we aren’t able to manage special third-party arrangements for the Community Collection right now. That said, we might be open to a special collaboration with you during the pop-up.

Yes — we have a simple, transparent agreement created by photographers, for photographers. It’s designed to make sure everything is clear and mutually beneficial for everyone involved. You will be agreeing to the terms and conditions when you submit your image for consideration.

Print quality is something we care deeply about, and we’re proud to work with a team of photographers who have more than 10 years of experience in both fine art and professional printing. Their attention to detail and craftsmanship are outstanding.

To keep the collection consistent and make production seamless, we’ve selected one premium paper surface and limited the prints to two size options. This ensures every piece in the Community Collectionohas a cohesive look and the highest level of quality.

The images in the Community Collection serve a specific purpose: to provide financial support to organizations that assist at-risk members of our community.

If a customer is interested in a custom print or framing, we’ll encourage them to contact you directly. This approach helps you build your own base of patrons and ensures you maintain a direct connection with your supporters.

In rare cases, we may assist in fulfilling the order on a 50/50 profit-share basis. This service will be offered selectively and determined on a case-by-case basis.

By offering photography at a $20 price point, we make it possible for people who might not normally purchase art to participate.. The goal is to reach as many people as possible—because with higher sales volume, we can give more back to the organizations supporting at-risk members of our community.

All proceeds from the Community Collection go directly to these partner organizations—the artists do not receive a profit from these sales. This model turns photography into a vehicle for social impact, making art more inclusive while maximizing the difference each purchase can make.

We’re keeping the edition open so anyone who wants a print can get one, helping raise more money for the causes we support. Because this is a new project, we don’t know how many will sell, and keeping it open makes it easier to manage and reach more people.

The prints are unsigned to make production faster and more affordable, without adding extra work for the artists.

Absolutely. We take that responsibility seriously. Submitted files are used only to produce your prints for the gallery and for online sales — nothing else. We won’t resell, reproduce, or use your images beyond the scope of this project without your permission. All files are handled securely and deleted after the pop-up unless you ask us to keep them for future events. We’re photographers too, so we understand how important this is.

You retain full ownership of your creative work. Period.

  • You hold the copyright — the legal rights to reproduce, display, sell, or license your work.
  • We cannot claim ownership and only have your permission to reproduce or sell the work for the purposes of this project.
  • You can participate or withdraw from the project at any time.
  • Our agreement is non-exclusive. You can sell, display, or license your work elsewhere — in galleries, online shops, other collaborations, etc.

In short: you keep full rights and freedom over your artwork; the project just has a temporary, shared right to print and sell the work for the specific purpose of this project.
